Message from the Supreme Commander

My warmest greetings to everyone participating in the 2021 Elections for the Knights of Rizal Supreme Council of Trustees. This year, for the first time in its 110 years of existence, the Order will break from tradition and will conduct its annual elections online.

For more than a year now, the Order has been taking advantage of the best digital formats available to it to overcome the physical impediments posed by the current health crisis. One of the cascading effects of the COVID-19 pandemic has been its impact on the way organizations such as ours conduct daily businesses and facilitate activities and undertakings. As the global pandemic has placed us all in an unexplored territory far from the normal life we knew and so different from business as usual, we were pushed to develop innovative methods to ensure membership engagement, to prevent any disruption in the discharge of our duties and to carry on our mission as Knights of Rizal. A resort to online platforms has, thus, become the norm for us.

The historic online elections this year is a solution to the formidable challenges that come with conducting the conventional casting of ballots, a process that usually entails extensive person-to-person interaction in confined spaces. We acknowledge that the voters should be guaranteed their right to choose the leaders to guide them in these uncertain times in the safest, most efficient, and most practical means available. With this year’s worldwide elections being conducted through online ballots, brother knights, wherever they may be around the globe, can now safely exercise their right to vote without the risks of unnecessary exposure, and without being curtailed by the restrictions on movement, the need for physical distancing and the observance of strict health protocols. The conduct of this year’s online elections, even during this temporary parenthesis, is a testament that our Rizalian mission and our characters do not change despite the major disruptions brought by the pandemic in our normal lives.

On behalf of the Supreme Council, I want to thank the Electoral Tribunal and all those who have worked tirelessly to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 on the conduct of our elections. My sincerest gratitude to all of you for making the virtual elections a reality! It is my fervent hope that we can continue sustaining these splendid accomplishments amidst the tribulations that we are facing and I pray that we continue to fulfill our roles as agents of Rizal despite the circumstances.

Meet the Electoral Tribunal

Members of the Electoral Tribunal are appointed by the Supreme Council. It's task is to "ensure free, fair, honest and orderly election". Due to extenuating circumstances bought by the pandemic, the Order amended the election rules for this year and allowed for remote voting. To accomplish this task, an Election Administrator with experience in remote online voting was also appointed to assist in managing this historic election.
