Sir Romeo F. Barza, KGOR is the 44th Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeals, where he served as such from December 8, 2017 until his mandatory retirement from the Judiciary on August 1, 2019. He was an Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals from May 8, 2006 until December 7, 2017. Prior to his appointment as Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals, he was Judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 61, Makati City (July 12, 2002 to May 7, 2006) and Judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 3, Batangas City (January 9, 1996 to July 11, 2002). While RTC Judge of Makati City, has was elected President of the Philippine Judges Association and served as such for three (3) years.
Justice Barza finished his Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service in 1970, and he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1974, both from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. Prior to joining the Judiciary, he was a law practitioner from 1975 to 1996.
Sir Romeo Barza is the Charter Chapter Commander of Bagumbayan chapter and a member of F&A Masons, La Naval Lodge 269. He was first knighted by the Davao Chapter in 2017. Through the efforts of Commander Justice Barza and Supreme Commander Justice Elihu Ybanez, a building in the Court of Appeals Compound in Baguio City was named after Jose P. Rizal and whose bust was installed thereat.
Justice Barza now serves as independent Director of United Coconut Planters Life Assurance Inc. (Cocolife), Ultra Security Services, Inc., and Cocoplans, Inc., and is also the incumbent Chairman of the Board of Cocogen Insurance Inc., Cocolife Asset Management Company, Inc., United Fund Inc., Cocolife Fixed Income Fund, Inc., and Cocolife Dollar Fund Builder, Inc. As Director of Cocolife and Chairman of the Board of Cocogen Insurance, Commander Barza worked out a Group Life Insurance and Personal Accident Insurance for members of Bagumbayan chapter.
